Let’s talk about money!

If you haven’t already, go check out my previous post How to Start a Blog in 2024. Here you will find the basic steps on starting a blog if you haven’t started one already.

Once you have your blog up and running, you can start to monetize it right away. What does monetize mean? It means to earn revenue or money.

Most Profitable Ways to Make Money with your Blog

There are tons of ways to make money with your blog! Majority of the different methods fall into one of these 4 categories.

Affiliate Marketing

This is probably one of the easiest ways to make money from your blog. Affiliate marketing is when you promote a product or service on your website and whenever you generate a sale, you get a commission. You are normally given a unique link for your readers to click to ensure you get paid for their purchase. It does not add any additional cost for the reader either.

Be sure to educate yourself on the need to have an affiliate disclosure letting your readers know that you earn a commission from their purchase. This is not to veer them away but to protect you. It is required by law to disclose this information and most affiliate programs also require it as well.

There are 3 ways you can make money with affiliate programs.

  • Pay per Sale: You can make commission on what is sold through your unique links.
  • Pay per Click: Money is earned every time someone clicks one of your unique links
  • Pay per Lead: If someone signs up for a free account or free trial you can earn a commission.

Payment is usually either a flat base pay or sometimes it can be a percentage of the product or service you promoted. Sometimes you may have to earn a certain amount before you will be able to cash out.

Additionally, be prepared as some affiliate programs do have a delay in when you will get your payment. They can be as long as 30-90 days before you get a deposit. It is important to ensure you have an account for payments to be received in.

Advertising

Another great way to make money on your blog is through advertising. Have you ever opened a site and saw the little videos or banners advertising all sorts of things. You can get paid to put those on your blog!

Some popular Ad Networks include Google Adsense, Ezoic, Monumetric, and Mediavine. Once you reach a certain number of page views, you can apply and start bringing in the money. (Google Adsense and Ezoic do not have page view requirements.)

The key with this form of income is that you need viewers. The more you have the more you can make, so building an audience beforehand plays a role in how much you may be able to bring home.

Be sure to read the requirements for each Ad network. Sometimes it can seem overwhelming to have over 10,000 pageviews in a month but if you were to get paid even $5 per view, that’s a monthly income of $500!

Digital Products

Digital products have the ability to provide a lot of additional income to your pockets. Almost every blogger utilizes them in some way, even if they are giving them away for free as a way to increase their subscriber list.

What is considered a digital product?

  • Ebooks
  • Online Courses
  • Templates
  • Newsletter Subscriptions
  • Stock Photos
  • Workshops
  • Printables

Why are digital products a game changer? Here are a few benefits:

  • Producing, storing, or shipping physical products are not a concern.
  • It can generate passive income as there is an unlimited amount of product to sell.
  • Outside of your time being used, there is very little risk or startup costs associated with digital products.
  • They benefit all niche and topic selections.

With limited production costs and unlimited potential, digital products can really help your blog make some money.

Sponsored Posts

Sponsored content is like a written advertisement. This is where a relationship is formed between you and a company to promote their products or services.

Imagine you are a blogger who creates content for small restaurants and has been getting a decent amount of pageviews per month. You may choose to reach out to a local restaurant offering a sponsored post on your site for a set price that could potentially bring more costumers to them.

It also can happen the opposite way as well. Sometimes you may receive outreach from companies asking for sponsored posts, and again you can give them your rate and make an exchange of reviews for payment.

** Having a Media Kit is highly recommended before reaching out to any companies when trying to get them to pay for a sponsored post. It is also great to have on hand if you get outreached to as well. A media kit provides the future client/company with any information they may need to know about you or your brand before they decide to partner with you. Information includes: a brief bio, social media and website stats (followers, pageviews, etc.), audience demographics (like gender and age), information about your blog, and any previous partnerships or reviews. You can find templates for the Media Kit on Etsy or you may even consider creating one of your own.
